My name is Amber and I am a licensed LMHCA and really excited to bring my experience to Dayspring! I am compassionate about creating a supportive and safe environment for my clients. It’s imperative that when I meet with clients, they feel support, compassion, and empathy so they have the best therapeutic experience possible.
A little about Me
I did my undergrad work at Western Washington University earning a double major in Psychology and Sociology, graduating in 2001. I then went on to City University where I obtained my master’s degree in counseling psychology in 2007. I have over 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector and am passionate about that work that was able to be accomplished. I worked at a day health program serving seniors, their families, and a program for young adults with neurodiversity. I also served in supporting families experiencing homelessness through social work programs at Salvation Army. I have over 5 years of experience in a private practice therapy setting. I am married and we have a blended family of 3 kids and 2 pugs. I love spending time with my family making memories as well as loving on my two sweet pugs!
Who I work with
I enjoy working with a variety of clients from age 5-105 including (kids, teens, adults, couples and families.
I have extensive experience with grief and loss therapy, At the start of my career I worked very closely with the Alzheimer’ Association and provided support in a therapeutic environment for those caring with a loved one with a chronic illness. During this time, I became a master level trainer for the program called, “Powerful tools for Caregivers.” Teaching caregivers for 8 years how to cope with stress and sadness (anxiety and depression) that is often associated with caregiving. I helped caregivers to advocate for themselves and their loved ones and incorporate self-care into their routines.
Throughout my nonprofit work I also have over 20 years’ experience working with individuals with neurodiversity. Our program served clients with a diagnosis of autism, ADHD, down syndrome, schizophrenia, and multiple forms of dementia.
How can I help
My background and therapeutic approaches I use are CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), solutions- focused therapy, Gottman Methods Relationship therapy, and family systems. I also have a strong background in trauma work and strive to create a safe environment for my clients to process their emotions and feelings around the traumatic event while also empowering the client and giving hope as they process and heal. I am also trained in mindfulness and meditation and incorporate those methods in my work with clients of all ages.
