Dr. Cara Scammon, PsyD

Post-Doctoral Fellow

Cara earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology from Azusa Pacific University, followed by her Master of Arts and Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Counseling Psychology from Northwest University. She completed her doctoral internship at Burrell Behavioral Health in Springfield, Missouri, through the National Psychology Training Consortium, where she provided therapy across the lifespan, conducted psychological evaluations, and co-facilitated group therapy within the RecoverED adolescent eating disorder intensive outpatient program (IOP).

As a post-doctoral fellow, Cara’s primary focus is on psychological assessment. She has specialized training and experience in comprehensive evaluations for ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, mood disorders, trauma, and other concerns that may affect academic, emotional, or social functioning. She values the process of answering complex diagnostic questions and is committed to providing individualized, practical recommendations that empower her clients at school, home, work, and in daily life.

In addition to her assessment work, Cara provides therapy for adolescents and young adults navigating transitions, identity development, anxiety, depression, and trauma. She integrates her EMDR training and trauma-informed perspective to normalize emotional experiences, build resilience, and equip clients with tools for growth. As a former collegiate athlete, Cara is also developing her interest in sport psychology, integrating her background in soccer with her passion for mental health to support athletes’ wellbeing and performance.

Outside of her clinical work, Cara loves reading, listening to music (specifically Taylor Swift), spending time outdoors, and enjoying life with her partner, pets (Lady and Willow), friends, and family.
