Josh Blazen, Ed.S.

NCSP, Doctoral Candidate

Hi! My name is Josh Blazen and I am a Psychology Doctoral Intern at Dayspring. I seek to help children and families navigate challenging behaviors, emotions, and experiences that impact family life and functioning at school. I have experience working with children (aged 3+), teens, and young adults in both school and clinical settings.

MY APPROACH TO COUNSELING

I am passionate about supporting children and youth across their different environments. Using my background as a school psychologist, I work with children and their families to establish treatment goals that support them in the home, school, and community. My aim is to equip children and families with skills to navigate life’s challenges and achieve goals that are meaningful to them.

When working with me, people can expect a behavioral approach to treatment. I collaborate with clients to identify factors in the environment that may be maintaining or contributing to the problem. Together, we work to address those patterns and find more helpful alternatives. For instance, in my work treating OCD and anxiety, I have collaborated with caregivers to help increase their awareness of the behaviors that may be reinforcing the child’s anxiety. I have also collaborated with schools to identify ways anxiety may be reinforced at school and recommend more helpful strategies. I lean towards the modality of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) due to the focus on identifying and changing unhelpful thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, but I also draw from mindfulness-based treatments such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) when needed.
